There are not enough superlatives to describe how much we enjoyed New Orleans. The food, the music, the architecture, the people were all wonderful.

A typical street in the French Quarter.

One of the enormous empty mansions in the Garden District. The only real evidence we saw of the effect of Katrina on the town was the number of empty properties for sale or rent in the Garden District.

Andrew Jackson looking pretty happy about winning the Battle of New Orleans in 1815 even though the peace treaty with the British had been signed weeks earlier. But a win is a win and for Jackson this was the first step to the White House.

One of the handsome chaps in the Voodoo Museum. The guy that runs the place chats to all the visitors with a large yellow python wound around his neck. Dean was curious enough to stroke the snake. I was apprehensive enough to back towards the door.

The French Quarter Festival was on while we were in town. Eight stages with free music of different genres for three days. What a place!

Another gorgeous scene in New Orleans.
