Day 3 Craig, CO to Green River, UT

We left Craig early (never to return) and drove south to Rifle, and then west to Green River, Utah. The scenery along the road was spectacular - mesas, escarpments, stacks of rock - as if there was an experiment in trying to display the maximum possible number of different colours, shapes, and formations of rock. When we got to Green River, all the children could think of was the swimming pool that the campground guidebook promised us. For the second day in a row, a campsite that advertized a swimming pool told us that the pool was closed. This time because the water was too cold! Hannah was very upset, and Rachel began composing the letter of complaint in her head. We drove to Moab and realized we had picked the wrong town to stay in. Moab is lovely, Green River is not. We got back to Green River and the campsite manager informed us that the swimming pool was now open. Suddenly the day was transformed from rather boring to the "best day of the holiday so far." The children swam for half an hour and then we went to Ray's Grill for burgers all around. Everyone content.
